HERAT. 24 May 2015. A new UNAMA campaign to promote the rights of women and inspire them to pursue professional careers and play a positive role in the community was launched in the province of Herat, Afghanistan. In the first event held at the Tajrobavi High school, three Herati women role models urged hundreds of girls not to be afraid despite the social challenges and to continue their role in supporting development and peace in the country.The campaign’s aim is to promote the image of Afghan women actively participating in society as role models and bring changes to the attitudes about the role of women.The first event of the campaign was initiated by UNAMA’s Strategic Communications and the Mission’s Human Rights Unit and was supported by the department of women affairs and education.At the end of the event, a female teacher thanked Marva Shakib, another women role model working with the government for opening her eyes to the importance of education.
