The Taliban threaten Female Students with Expulsion over not Wearing Black Hijab

Female students at Kabul University claim that the Taliban forced them to sign a commitment letter promising to wear black hejab while coming to the university or face expulsion.

Banu Basira (a pseudonym) says that the Taliban are forcing every female student to sign a commitment letter promising to come to university wearing a black hejab and gloves. She also chastised the Taliban, saying, “In the last few days, several female students have been denied entry to the university for not wearing a black hijab.”

Another student stated, “If the Taliban’s restrictions on women continue like this, female students will most likely drop out of university.” she also says that under the previous government, male and female students were studying in mixed classes. But after the Taliban came to power, they separated classes for boys and girls. Despite boys and girls being in separated classes yet they are forcing female students to wear hijab that covers them from head to toe.

Some analysts believe that the Taliban’s increasing restriction on the education of women and girls is violating human rights. They say that the Taliban’s backward approach in regard to women’s education promotes illiteracy, and will deepen gender inequality in the country.
