The Afghanistan Journalists Center announced today (March 18), that Mullah Hibatullah, the self-proclaimed leader of the Taliban, has recently banned the broadcasting of women’s voices on Kandahar radio stations.
According to the report, the Taliban’s Directorate of Information and Culture in Kandahar received this directive on Monday (March 17) and subsequently issued an official notice to media outlets, instructing them to refrain from airing women’s voices.
The notice also emphasizes that media organizations are required to refer to Mullah Hibatullah as “Amir al-Mu’minin” (Leader of the Faithful) and to call the Taliban’s administration the “Islamic Emirate.”
In addition, Journalists traveling to cities and villages for news coverage are now required to obtain prior authorization from the Taliban authorities.
It is worth noting that Kandahar is the second province, after Helmand, where women’s voices have been completely erased from the media. However, reports indicate that currently, no television stations are operating in Kandahar.
