Taliban Detain Several Women and Girls in Kabul

Local sources in Kabul have confirmed that officers from the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice detained several women and girls today, Saturday (July 19), in the western part of the city.

According to eyewitnesses, around 4 PM near the Resalat Alley checkpoint, Taliban officers stopped a van and forcibly removed women and girls using guns and weapons, taking them to an unknown location.

This action is part of a new wave of arrests targeting women across different areas of Kabul. A few days earlier, more than 50 women were detained from the Shahr-e Naw district by the same forces.

Over recent years, the Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice under the Taliban has been known for its harsh treatment of women and girls. Many Kabul residents describe these officers as “tall in height but short in intelligence,” and say they have become a source of fear and intimidation within the community.
