Taliban Flog 13 People in Parwan and Paktia

On August 26, 2025, Taliban officials in the provinces of Parwan and Paktia publicly flogged 13 people, including 11 men and 2 women, on various charges.
In Parwan, 12 people, including two women, were convicted of offenses such as extramarital relations, drug use, and drug trafficking. In Paktia, one man was flogged for theft. The sentences handed down included prison terms of six months to four years, along with 30 to 39 lashes.
At the Parwan sentencing, Taliban officials underlined what they called the importance of punishments such as flogging, retribution, and execution, claiming that these actions please God.
Noorullah Hamad, head of the primary court in Parwan, said: “Islamic law has set these punishments to guide criminals and benefit society.” By contrast, international law regards public punishments of this kind as torture and warns that they encourage extremist ideology.
Afghan media activist Muslim Shirzad has previously remarked that the Taliban remain stuck in a prehistoric mindset, imposing tribal-era laws on the Afghan people.
