The Taliban forces tortured and killed Nafiseh Balkhi, a young midwife who worked at Ali Chupan Hospital, last evening.
Sources in Balkh have confirmed that Nafisa Balkhi, along with a colleague and her 4 years old brother, was interrogated at a Taliban checkpoint when they were returning from duty, and then they were taken to the province’s seventh district for further questioning.
After interrogation, the Taliban discover that Nafiseh and her coworker are not mahrams (related by blood or marriage). That is why they first torture and eventually kill them in the most brutal way possible. They then hand over Nafiseh and her colleague’s remains to a government hospital this morning, where they will be delivered to their families.
Nafisa and her colleague are certainly not the first and last victims. Recently, two girls, both of whom were students at Balkh University, were first physically tortured and then shot by the Taliban. But The Taliban have always been denying responsibility for the killings, particularly those of women and civil society activists.
