The Supreme Court of the Taliban has announced that local officials of the Primary Court in Balkh province carried out a public whipping of a woman today, Thursday (August 24), accusing her of having an extramarital relationship.
According to the court’s ruling, the woman was sentenced to 39 lashes as a punitive measure.
The head of the Taliban’s Department for Promoting Virtue and Preventing Vice in Balkh stated during the punishment ceremony that the goal of such penalties is to “fight corruption” and to serve as a warning to others.
This incident comes just a day after two other individuals were publicly whipped in the same province on similar charges.
Human rights activists have repeatedly condemned these actions by the Taliban as cruel, inhumane, and in violation of international law. They emphasize that the Taliban regime uses punishments like public whipping to spread fear, suppress dissent, and reinforce their extremist ideology.
