Human Rights Activists Union: Nowruz Highlights Widespread Hardship and Empty Tables

The Human Rights Activists Union, in a message for the Persian New Year (1405) and Eid al-Fitr, said this year’s Nowruz is “a reminder of the empty tables and unfulfilled dreams of the people.”

The organization added: “The convergence of hope and faith takes on meaning at a time when the hearts of our people are still weighed down by suffering and silence. For many, these days are not just calendar occasions; they are a reminder of empty tables, unfulfilled dreams, and lives lived under pressure and deprivation.”

The Human Rights Activists Union also condemned the Taliban regime’s hostility toward Nowruz, describing it as “a terrorist act and an affront to renewal, nature, and life.” According to the organization, “The group’s pathological enmity toward Nowruz—the celebration of life, nature, and renewal—reveals that they are opposed to anything associated with awareness, joy, and vitality.”

Human rights activists emphasized that the people of Afghanistan will prevail over the Taliban regime, “like light overcoming darkness.” The statement reads: “Both Nowruz and Eid carry messages of hope. No winter lasts forever.”

This concern comes as the Taliban regime has declared the celebration of Nowruz forbidden, claiming it contradicts Islamic values. Last year, the regime also arbitrarily detained several citizens for celebrating Nowruz.
