Statement of a group of Afghan women’s rights activists in Pakistan, regarding girls’ education ban in Afghanistan

In its latest move, the Taliban imposed new restrictions on Afghan girls by officially banning secondary and high schools for girls.

This decision made by the Taliban is not only lacking a religious base but also is a clear violation of human rights, Insulting the personality of women and girls and disobeying The rules of the Quran and the order of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) who said: Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon ever Muslim.

such action by the Taliban against women will be neither the first nor the last. There are many cases in which the rights of women and girls in this country have been systematically violated. Women are now deprived of the right to freedom of expression, to participate in politics and society, and to enjoy employment and educational opportunities.

At present, not only this large segment of our society is being mistreated and their basic rights are being denied, but also many women and girls who were working with the previous government or who were human rights and women’s rights activists now cannot live inside the country.

We strongly condemn the Islamic Emirate’s decision to close girls’ schools. We also call on the international community and human rights organizations to put pressure on the Taliban to stop imposing increasing restrictions on women. They should call on the Taliban to open the gates of schools for Afghan girls. They must use different methods to pressurize the Taliban.

Unfortunately, due to the Ukraine war and the recent international conflicts, the people of Afghanistan have been forgotten. No organization or government pays attention to our problems.

We respectfully want the international community, especially the United Nations, to pay serious attention to the problems of the Afghan people, especially women. Because these people are facing a humanitarian catastrophe in the economic and human rights situation.

We thank the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for hosting so many Afghan refugees. But this country does not have the capacity to shelter so many asylum seekers at all. Therefore, we expect the international community and all countries of the world to fulfill their moral and human responsibility to this problem. They must pay attention to the miserable situation of the Afghan refugees who are living in Pakistan. Poor refugees are facing serious economic, educational, and health problems.
